How our school run service works
A school run is different from a one-off taxi. The same journey happens at the same time every school day, and parents need to know it will happen. When you contact us, we agree the details once: pickup address, school, days of the week, morning and afternoon times, and who is travelling. We then book the journeys for the term, and you only need to tell us about changes such as inset days, trips or after-school clubs.
Many families use us for part of the week rather than every day, for example on the days when both parents work early or when a child has a late club. Others use the service for a fixed period, such as while a parent recovers from an operation or when a new baby arrives.
Schools in and around Raynes Park
There are many primary and secondary schools within a short drive of SW20, including Raynes Park High School on Bushey Road, Rutlish School in Merton Park, and several schools in Wimbledon. Some children travel further, to schools in Kingston, Sutton or Cheam. We can plan a route to any school in the area, and we will allow for the traffic you get on Coombe Lane, Kingston Road and the A3 at school times.
Safety and licensing
Our drivers are licensed by Transport for London as private hire drivers. TfL licensing includes an enhanced DBS background check, a medical assessment and checks on driving history, and every vehicle must pass regular inspections. We operate under TfL private hire operator licence [TfL licence number].
Child seats are available on request. Tell us the age and size of each child when you set up the booking, so the right seat is in the car every day. We also agree a clear handover routine with you: where the driver waits at school, who is allowed to meet the child at home, and what happens if nobody is there.
Sharing a school run with other families
Where several children from nearby homes go to the same school, sharing a larger car can be practical. Our 6 seater taxi and 7 seater taxi can collect several children on one route, with the parents agreeing between themselves how the cost is shared. Please make sure every parent is happy with the arrangement and the pickup order before we start.
Changes, cancellations and holidays
Term dates differ between schools, so please send us your school calendar when you book. If a day is cancelled because of illness or a school closure, call or email us as early as you can. We are open 24 hours, so you can leave a message the night before or first thing in the morning.
Paying for regular journeys
We accept card and cash. For regular school runs we can agree a simple payment routine with you, such as paying weekly. Ask us about this when you set up the booking. For questions about how our fares and bookings work in general, see our FAQ page.
