About Charing Cross station
Charing Cross sits on the Strand, right in the middle of the West End. Southeastern trains run from here through London Bridge to Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, Hastings and other towns in Kent and East Sussex. The station is also a short walk from Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, Covent Garden and many of the theatres, so it is a common drop-off for a night out as much as a train journey. Road distances to London are traditionally measured from Charing Cross, which gives an idea of how central it is.
The drive from Raynes Park
The route usually runs through Wandsworth and Vauxhall, then along the Embankment or across Westminster Bridge to the Strand. The last section, around Parliament Square and Trafalgar Square, can be slow, especially during events, protests or state occasions when roads close at short notice. We check for closures before your journey and allow extra time when needed.
Some routes into central London cross the Congestion Charge zone. Ask us when you book how any charge is handled for your journey.
Theatre and evening trips
A lot of our Charing Cross bookings are evenings out. If you are going to a show, book a return pickup for when the performance finishes and your driver will meet you at an agreed point nearby. The streets around the theatres get very busy at curtain-down, so a nearby meeting point that is easy for the car to reach is often better than the theatre door. We will suggest one when you book.
Rail trips into Kent
If you are catching a Southeastern train, tell us the departure time and we will plan your pickup so you have time to find your platform. For returns, give us your arrival time and we will be waiting. If your train is delayed, call us and we will adjust.
Visitors and hotels
Many visitors staying in West End hotels start and end their trips around Charing Cross. Our hotel transfer taxi can carry you and your luggage between your hotel and Raynes Park, a station, or an airport such as London City.
Getting around the West End
The streets around Charing Cross are some of the busiest in London, with buses, deliveries and crowds of visitors. Stopping directly outside the station entrance is not always possible, so your driver will drop you as close as they safely can, which is usually within a very short walk. For pickups, we will agree a meeting point with you that is easy to find and where the car can stop, and your driver can call you when they arrive.
Other stations we cover
Southeastern trains from Charing Cross also stop at London Bridge, which may be easier to reach depending on where you are going. We also run to Victoria for Kent and Sussex services. Pickups are available from Coombe, Worcester Park and all the areas we cover.
